In the centre stands the personal and spiritual development of the volunteer through their experience of social service abroad or in their home country.

The goals in detail are:

• To enable the volunteer’s intercultural and ecumenical learning
• To encourage his/her awareness of social and political responsibility
• To deepen the volunteer’s faith journey through practical engagement
• To develop workplace skills
• To increase her/his capacity to communicate and work in group situations
• To help her/him to decide about life and career orientation.

Common standards include preparation and guidance through regular conferences and seminars for the volunteers, personal supervision in the placements and regular contacts with staff of the member organisations, health, accident and personal iability insurance coverage, etc.
